COURSE INFORMATION 

The presentational method for this activity is Case Presentation and Lecture. The intended audience for this course includes all healthcare providers especially physicians and advanced practice providers who are specifically involved in the diagnosis and management of patients with acute and chronic nonhealing wounds. The material is ideally suited for certification prep for those providers who seek certification in wound healing as well as those seeking an overview and review of the essential elements and fundamentals of wound care treatment. Wound care is practiced over a broad diversity of healthcare providers.  This course is designed to fit the needs of, but is not limited to, the following areas of the practice of medicine: general practice, surgery, primary care, dermatology, family medicine, orthopedics, infectious disease and podiatric medicine. This activity will encompass the following desirable physician attributes: Patient Care & Procedural Skills, Medical Knowledge, Professionalism, and Practice-Based Learning & Improvement.

Desired Outcomes
At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to:
1. Utilize information learned about the disease processes causing ulceration to facilitate the patient’s initial visit work-up, perform an accurate diagnosis, and improve treatment strategies
2. Recognize health issues in surrounding populations to predict ulcer etiology and improve diagnosis
3. Implement new procedures or evaluation techniques, which are considered basic wound care staples
4. Compare initial vs. follow-up changes to the ulcer during treatment to necessitate appropriate changes to treatment
5. Recognize and address cultural and clinical factors which may impact wound healing
